Cal Community Now On Discord

We are thrilled to announce a significant change designed to enhance our interactions and community building efforts. Recently, we transitioned our platform from Slack to Discord - a move that promises a more user-friendly, robust, and community-oriented experience. We are excited about the added benefits this shift brings and how it will positively impact our community interactions. This comes at a good time, as we’ve been looking to scale up our community efforts and engage more with our contributors.

Over time, we observed certain limitations with Slack, particularly for a fairly large community like ours. As we were on Slack's free plan (we can’t afford to upgrade 5k members to the pro plan), we encountered a recurring challenge where Slack automatically deleted older messages due to their age. This led to loss of valuable knowledge exchange and important conversations. Additionally, there have been instances of Slack shutting down communities which, as per their interpretation, violated their terms of service. We felt the need to provide a secure and sustainable platform for our community.

Enter Discord. This platform is specifically built with communities in mind, bringing a plethora of features that are more conducive to a thriving online community like ours.

One of the standout features of Discord is its emphasis on community interaction. We can now easily create and manage voice channels, allowing members to hop in and out for live, real-time conversations. Moreover, we can host events on virtual stages within our Cal.com server, creating more opportunities for interactive and engaging community events.

With Discord's new Threads feature, our community can manage help requests more efficiently. Instead of a chaotic influx of messages, help requests are neatly organized into threads, making it easier for our team and community members to respond and assist.

Transitioning to Discord represents a significant step forward in our commitment to provide an enriching and engaging community experience for all Cal.com users. We firmly believe that this move will foster a more organized, responsive, and vibrant community.

We can't wait to connect with you all on Discord. Here's to a new chapter of our community on a platform that supports our growth and engagement!
