Get StartedAs a calendar scheduling product, Cal.com is passionate about ensuring that our users have easy access to customization. This is why we've done our utmost to ensure so many of our features are no-code friendly. We want Cal.com powered scheduling to be easy for grandpas, great-aunts, and kindergarten teachers, as well as CEOs. After all, life is nothing if not constantly changing, and the only scheduling tool worth having is one that can be updated as things evolve.
If you're a frequent reader of our blog, you probably already know that we offer a variety of options that can be used to customize your booking page colors. These features can be accessed via your event-embed options and account-level settings.
What you might not know is that we have a third option for color customization, called event type color. Just like its name suggests, it can be found in your event-level settings. The event type color feature is a little bit different from both the embed and account-level color settings.
You see, the embed color option helps to ensure that your booking portal matches the rest of your website's aesthetics. The account-level color customization options, on the other hand, are designed so that your username-based bookings match your brand colors.
The event type color option provides an avenue that can be used to customize the booking color of an appointment type, without changing how it displays when embedded on a website or impacting overall account color settings.
You might be wondering when and why someone might use the event type color setting. Well, think about it this way: color coding is useful. Imagine you're a team administrator who's managing multiple subteams.
Using the event type color setting means you could create meeting templates that are ultra-client-friendly. For example, you could add green to bookable events related to customer service support and blue to events for sales. These colors would act as a simple wayfinding method that helps customers, new and old, navigate your online booking portal.
The event type color option is also beneficial when it comes to color coding internal bookings. An example of this could include making all-hands events yellow, employee onboarding sessions purple, and HR appointments chartreuse. The event type color setting could also be used to inject some seasonal cheer when applied to limited-term events during the holidays.
Log into your Cal account.
Go to your event type dashboard.
Click on the event that you want to edit.
Select the Advanced tab from your event-level settings.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see Event Type Color.
Click on the toggle button so it switches from the off position to the on position.
Choose the color that you'd like to use for the dark version of the theme as well as for the light version of the theme.
Scroll back up to the top of the page and click the Save button on the upper right-hand side.
Once you've saved your changes, you don't need to worry about the event color settings impacting your website booking embed or account-level color options. This is because using the event type color setting only changes the colors for the specific event it's applied to.
In addition, event type color only changes the appearance of the booking when it's viewed on your cal.com/username page. This means that if you added the event to your website as a popup or inline object that uses different colors, those choices will not be impacted. This means that you can color-code your appointments as needed, without it negatively affecting other aspects of your overall brand.
